April Absurdity: Day 4 Results

#13 UAB at #4 Maryland:
Maryland, 13-0

The Terps took advantage of the snow in Maryland and played a defensive game which got them the first round win in April Absurdity, 13-0 over UAB. There were 0 - ZERO - touchdowns on offense in this game. The only touchdown scored was an 85 yard fumble return touchdown by CB Josh Wilson, while Dan Ennis kicked 2 field goals for the Terps as 4th seeded Maryland defeated 13th seeded UAB, 13-0.

#16 James Madison at #1 Michigan:
Michigan, 30-7

Steve Breaston scored on a 61 yard punt return and a 40 yard pass along with Mike Hart running for a 55 yard touchdown as the Wolverines of Michigan easily accounted for the James Madison Dukes, 30-7. Garrett Rivas also kicked 3 field goals for the Wolverines. The Dukes avoided the shut-out when QB #11 completed a 64 yard touchdown pass to WR #2 with 1:46 left in the third, but it wasn't enough as top seeded Michigan defeated 16th seeded James Madison, 30-7.

In a mildly related note, I went to a garage sale in a road called "Michigan Place" today. I found a plastic sword, swung it around a bit and knocked over a porcelain rabbit.

I then left.

#9 Kent State at #8 East Carolina:
Kent State, 34-14

Kent State made it two wins for the 9 seeds versus 1 win for the 8 seeds as the Golden Flashes defeated East Carolina, 34-14. Kent State scored first on a 40 yard field goal, but an 58 yard pass from Pinkney to Johnson for ECU gave them a 7-3 lead at the beginning of the second. The Golden Flashes then scored 10 points in the 2nd including a field goal as time expired to lead 13-7 at the main break, after which it was all Kent State with 2 rushing touchdowns by Jarvis making the final score 9th seeded Kent State 34, 8th seeded East Carolina 14.

#12 Colorado State at #5 Western Michigan:
Western Michigan, 21-14

Despite an early 14-0 deficit, 5th seeded Western Michigan rode on the back of QB Ryan Cubit on route to a 21-14 first round victory over 12th seeded Colorado State. CSU scored on 67 yard and 3 yard runs by Kyle Bell in the first 5:03 of the game, but then it was all Broncos. They scored on a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half to make it 14-7 at the main break, and then scored on 63 and 14 yard touchdown passes throughout the third quarter for their final margin of victory as 5th seeded Western Michigan defeated 12th seeded Colorado State, 21-14.
