Week 8, 2007: dshban's Opinion

The Tennessee Cup is decided in Week 8

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA -- It was fitting that the creator of the Tennessee Cup, Thompson219, would have his team lose to decide the first one.

Tennessee State defeated Tennessee Tech, 34-14, giving the Tigers the first ever Tennessee Cup. They win a concert by an Elvis impersonator, and some Dixie... things. Give me a break, I'm Australian, I don't know what Dixie does. Martin Nolen of Tennessee Tech had a 95 yard kick return, the longest that has been actually played on my version of NCAA '07, but 192 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing from Michael Jackson gave TSU the win.

Appalachian State got their second win of the year - again in conference, and again on video - with a 23-6 victory over Jacksonville State. Freshman quarterback Ronnie Kucera went 9 of 14 for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Mountaineers, while the best for the Gamecocks was ROLB #43 with 2 tackles and an interception. Jacksonville State drops to 3-5 while Appalachian State moves to 2-5.

Eastern Illinois lost a non-conference battle to Houston, 14-7. The 1-6 Panthers led 7-0 after a quarter, but Houston scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters for the win (FTW!). H. Taylor of Houston ran for 165 yards and a touchdown, while J. Jackson, the solid middle linebacker from EIU had 5 tackles, a TFL, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Furman lost their fourth on the trot with a 28-3 loss to Tennessee-Martin. The Skyhawks, who moved to 3-5 with the win, had conference leading rusher Michael Jackson run for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns. The best for the Paladins, who are now 2-5, was apparently J. Allen who had 5 tackles and an interception. Furman has now lost 4 in a row. Poor joshuahuskers.

Wofford vs Eastern Kentucky. Who do you think won?

WOFFORD! No. They didn't. The Colonels won, 28-9, moving to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in conference - they're 13-0 in ACC conference history! Wow. QB #15 went 21 of 35 for 219 yards, with 21 carries for 88 yards and 4 total touchdowns. Coach Elwood Blues, I'm guessing, is happy he's got a year after this, as he's a redshirt junior. ROLB #29 from the Terriers had 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.

And then SE Missouri State travelled to Samford, and performed a tad worse than taking EKU to triple overtime. They lost 14-42.

Maybe I was lying when I said a tad worse.

Samford's QB #12 went 29 of 41 for 282 yards with 4 touchdowns, while also rushing for 71 yards on 12 carries. QB #6 from SEMO tried to keep up, going 24 of 42 for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as the Redhawks dropped to 2-4 while Samford moves to 4-4.
